Access to technology means access to opportunities. In today’s hyperconnected world, with the proliferation of personal computers, mobile devices, and internet connectivity—it is easy to forget that many people across the world still do not have access to a computer. For many people like Rani*, who live in hard-to-reach, underserved communities in Dhaka, Bangladesh, access to technology—and the myriad opportunities it brings—remain out of reach.
Less than 40% of Bangladesh’s labor force are women. Many are engaged in informal, unpaid, or low-paying jobs that are most at risk of disappearing with the advancement of machine automation. Without access to technology, the opportunities for work and economic growth for Rani are limited.
At IIX Foundation, we celebrate the value of women as crucial forces in society, and are committed to supporting last-mile programs that empower them to realize their full potential.
With the proceeds from SHE IS MORE 2019, we are empowering vulnerable communities in Bangladesh to become independent through skills training. In the capital of Dhaka, which has over 3.5 million people living in the slums, women in particular lack access to quality education and are mostly employed as domestic or garment workers. IIX is providing over 120 women with access to basic computer and digital literacy training over six months, improving their confidence to access new and better-paying employment opportunities, and build better lives for their families.
Together, we want to help women like Rani to move from low-paid, low-productivity jobs to better opportunities, and give her the courage and confidence to change her life and make a better future for herself and her family.

Voices from the Youth

I wanted to depict this universal female experience to be a source of consolation that she is not alone, and as a source of validation that it is fine for her not to feel that she does not fit one mold. She Is More. She is more than her face. And she is beautiful.

Through the black and white face, I want to show that we are not new, unlike the world. We come into the world with the same past, respect and inequality. We are not given the opportunity to show that we are more. I live in a place where I am given that opportunity, but I know that there are so many people who are not. This piece is dedicated to those people. All girls and all women, emerge and conquer. Take your opportunity.

My artwork reflects a lady with millions of things in her head always- millions of dreams about the future and millions of things to do on her list each day, everyday. She successfully manages to put together all the things in her life, like pieces of jigsaw puzzle. Sometimes, the puzzle pieces take time to come together but she continues to make efforts till she makes her world beautiful for herself and everybody around. She is more than I can say or I can draw.

She is more because she is proving that women can be free to pursue whatever topics and interests they may have regardless of having to fit to any given mold.

Additionally, I used a double exposure technique in Adobe Photoshop and blended my friend in with a photo of flowers to express that ultimately, representation of women aka "the butterflies" are what allow women to thrive and "bloom." I intended to make this piece of art dreamlike and happy, to exhibit liberation.

the burden alone
Words like overwhelmed,
distraught,
exhausted, seemed to describe me
But not any more.
At first daybreak a voice opens crevices
in the air, “Fear no more.”
And then eerily, a courage burned inside me
And my heart said
I am more
You are more
She is more...
