THE FORGOTTEN WOMB
Harshika Nair Harinarayanan, 15, Singapore
When we talk about women we often think about the women among us who truly should be commended for their courageous & tenacious steps in changing the world. But we often forget about that one woman who made all of us. I am not talking about the mothers who made us or their mothers who made them but, Mother Earth. She has dealt with the ramifications of the actions from the first creature to have walked on her & sadly will, to the last one that would. Most humans in this world have lived peacefully despite all the horrifying wounds we have drawn in her womb. I feel that the Coronavirus was an attempt of Mother Earth to pinch those who haven’t heard her cries & urge those who have, into making a positive impact. The compassion she is showing towards humans by simply alarming us with the pandemic & not bringing about the extinction of ours is something we all should be grateful for. In my drawing, all the animals are looking around symbolising Mother Earth’s cry for help. Moreover, I chose to draw non-humans instead of humans in hopes of capturing the resIlience in loving of females, young and males in the wild who aren’t humans despite them not being given much medical support or concern.
