MORE THAN JUST A FLOWER

Eliana,17, Indonesia

Women, for many centuries, have been believed by society as delicate and incapable of taking care of themselves, similar to a flower. However, this piece wants to emphasize that there is more to her than what they see, as a flower is more than just a flora being. The subject of this piece is a person of color, who is also a doctor. She is wearing a doctors garment used to protect people of such occupation from the coronavirus. Furthermore, she is also to represent the “Black Lives Matters” movement, as a way to implant the truth into people’s minds that is, women are much more capable than what others may think. The flowers in the background that surround our main subject are not only known for its beauty but its healing capabilities as well. These flowers are namely: Passionflower, Gladiolus, Echinacea, Roses, Protea, Calendula and Verbascum. This is a representation of the diversity of women and that she is much more apt than what others perceive her to be.
