INSTINCT

Pai Yichen, 15, China

“Instinct” has already been a part of my life. Through intuition, I found people who share my interests, and also a career direction that I really love. All of this is about finding myself. A year ago, I was lucky to know this woman in my art piece. Her words are full of inspiration, which is very helpful to clear the confusion that was fogging my brain. At that time, I was puzzled whether I really wanted to pursue a career related to economics in the future. It turns out that the answer is “No”——I had persuaded myself intentionally or unintentionally to believe that economics is my “Choice of Destiny”, but what I am enthusiastic about are art and science. From that on, I don’t just use reason to decide a thing, but instinct. I tried to reflect this amazing spiritual tour in my artwork. This is the reason why I created this artwork. I only used three elements: charcoal, blue watercolor, and gold leaf to present my work. It simply the material world, but enrich the spiritual world. The whole picture is divided into four parts, but they are not unrelated. They stand for strength, forgiveness, protection, and wisdom. These are the four things I cherish most from the women around me. During the quarantine of COVID-19, I feel lonely and vulnerable. It is the words of the wise and strong women around me that make me full of power to face challenges. “She is more” means “she is needed”——not only for me who is also a woman, but men. The impact and guidance of women’s intuition are exactly what I want to express in this work. She is needed. The world needs “shes”.
