HEROINES
Chang Seoeun, 11, Singapore
Nowadays because of COVID-19, many people work from home, thus more people cook at home and order delivery food. In my work, the center panel shows a mother and daughter cooking noodles together. Mothers have added responsibilities, having to balance working from home, housework, and cooking as families eat at home more. Seeing this, the daughter is also stepping up and offering help to her busy mother. The first panel shows a food delivery woman helping to collect takeaway food at a hawker centre as people are no longer allowed to dine in. The last panel shows a food delivery woman delivering pizza to people’s houses. Food delivery workers are also frontliners, coming into contact with many people through her work, putting herself at risk. She is brave for taking on this job and it also helps to support food businesses to prevent them from shutting down. This pandemic has changed our daily lives in many ways, and my work aims to highlight how women have stepped up to help out in this situation.
