DRAKEIN ARC

Crystal,18, Singapore

This piece of artwork was inspired by years of feeling oppressed and recently, hearing my female friends fretting over the lack of opportunities presented because of a male snatching these opportunities away and how to confront the issue without emotionally hurting him. The story is about a centuries-old sword, used across time and space. She has been held by countless hands that were once smooth and later rough with scars. She has cut through men who wore pounds of armory and the soft lump of beating muscle beneath. She has been wielded by honorable men and despicable sinners alike. She has many times struck true, but has also, much to her despair, missed equally many. She has seen many things, from the beauty of love to the most traumatizing wars. And yet, she does not break. She does not let it dull her edges and mishape her. In fact, she grows. Sharper, and more determined to right wrongs. She has not shattered, and she will not. She will remain sharp and wielded, as long as people are safe and shielded. The milky way is interpreted as a protector, like the shell of an egg, of the life within. We also call war machines and weapons and women are often compared with vipers. Snakes, serpents and dragons act as guidance during transitions, physical and emotional, which is related to how females stay strong in front of and care for people with and without COVID-19 eventhough they may be afraid.
