BLINDING COURAGE
Arshia Chakraborty, 16, Singapore
The primary focus of the watercolor painting is the theme of courage in females. The grey tones used to paint the women imply that courage is present in every woman, regardless of their color, beliefs, or any other factors in her life. The protea flower- a standing symbol of courage and transformation- is shown to be blindfolding the women. Hence, implying her “Blinding courage.” In society, men are rewarded for every small task, while women’s contribution mostly goes unnoticed. Living in a man’s world isn’t easy, it takes a lot of courage for a woman to establish her own identity with the ever-present misogyny in the world, even today. This painting identifies the courage shown by women in each and every aspect of her life as they move forward with a blindfold of courage, brave enough to face any and every challenge that may come her way.
