Weight

Sydney, China

Playing with the symbolic image of a Barbie doll and the model’s expression, I wished to portray the numbness that many feel in response to the over-saturation of the media with images supporting a single beauty standard, along with the weight that this still has on many women. This was especially conveyed through the lack of balance in the size of the model and the doll head, communicating how insignificant these images may seem, yet the amount of impact they are capable of, and the genuine weight that they hold.

I wanted to depict this universal female experience to be a source of consolation that she is not alone, and as a source of validation that it is fine for her not to feel that she does not fit one mold. She Is More. She is more than her face. And she is beautiful.
